Human kind's relationship with the natural world is one of the most important themes of modern times. This changing relationship is well illustrated by the history of gardens. Stockwood Discovery Centre near Luton is an award winning museum illustrating nine hundred years of garden history. There are displays on rural life and crafts, and period gardens, which include an Elizabethan knot garden and a Victorian garden. The museum also houses Britain largest collection of horse drawn vehicles, dating from Roman times to the 1930s. A programme of events runs throughout the year, which includes school activities to support the national curriculum.
There is a tearoom and shop.
