We visited the Bluebell Railway a few months ago, and made a return visit on the 6th of April. Lunch was taken in a Pullman car of the 1920s and 30s as snow came down outside. Shuttling back and forth between Sheffield Park and Kingscote twice, never was the journey more the destination. It was a memorable trip. The steam engine pulling us may have only been 9% efficient, but all the rest of its energy went into putting on a dramatic show. In fact riding in the only working original Pullman train, it seemed to me that in this supposed age of efficiency we should remember that the wasted 91% is still worthwhile. Read more...
