The George Inn at Norton St Philip, Somerset

The George Inn is a fourteenth century inn built to accommodate traders who came to the annual wool fairs held in Norton St Philip near Bath from the thirteenth century until 1902. Diarist and naval reformer Samuel Pepys stayed here. The Duke of Monmouth, illegitimate son of Charles II had his headquarters at the George during his attempt to snatch the throne from his brother James II in 1685. A table in the Monmouth Room is supposed to be the one where Monmouth and his advisors sat to discuss their plans.

The film Remains of The Day used The George Inn as a location during the making of the film.

The George continues as a hotel, restaurant and bar.
