At Galloway Forest Park in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland the ancient woodland of Glen Trool can be explored. There are forested hills and hill lochs. Although all forest in Britain is now managed to some extent, Galloway Forest Park is one of the few places in Britain where you can get an idea of the Wildwood which once covered virtually the whole of the British Isles.
Trails running through the woods can be walked or cycled. There are visitor centres which offer meals and refreshments. Picnic areas are available in the forest.
