David Livingstone Centre
David Livingstone Centre, Blantyre near Glasgow
David Livingstone, the missionary and explorer, was born on 19th March 1813 in mill buildings at Blantyre near Glasgow. Young David worked in the mill before his earnest Christian faith took him off to do missionary work in Africa. The Livingstone family house is now preserved as a museum, telling the story of Livingstone from his early life in Blantyre through to his African journeys. Belongings, diaries, notebooks, and navigational equipment are all on display. The notebooks reveal an interest in science and natural history which Livingstone spent a formative part of his youth attempting to reconcile with his religious beliefs.
