Chysauster Ancient Village, Cornwall

Chysauster Ancient Village dates from around 100BC. There are well preserved remains of eight houses, and a collapsed fogou, an underground passage, the purpose of which remains unclear. To see a fogou in a state of better preservation, go to the nearby Carn Euny site. Tell tale signs of life in the village remain. There is a quern for grinding corn, a terraced garden for each house, remains of enclosed fields, and even the outline of covered drains. Go to the map below, switch to satellite and zoom in. An aerial view is a good way to get a feel of the village layout.
