Blickling Hall, Norfolk

This image is copyright free

The original Blickling Hall was owned by the Boleyn family, and a number of Boleyn children were born here. Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII seems to have come along after the family's move to Hever in Kent. However, there is a portrait of Anne at Blickling with an inscription claiming Blickling as the birthplace of the woman who had such a far reaching effect on the course of British history. The present Blickling Hall was built in the reign of James I by the powerful Hobart family, with a formal garden and a park. There are many art works in the house. The library houses one of the most important private collections of books in Britain.

The garden and park are lovely places for walks, and to reflect upon the seventeenth century preoccupation with formal garden design. Dogs are welcome on leads in the park. There is a shop and restaurant.

Some scenes from the 1945 film The Wicked Lady were filmed at Blickling Hall.
