Bateman's

Batemans in East Sussex was Rudyard Kipling's house from 1902 to 1936. Kipling was born in Bombay and the house reflects Kipling's strong association with the east in its furnishings. The house is much as Kipling left it, and is now owned by the National Trust.

 

 

Opening Times: The house is open from 15th March to 2nd November, 11am - 5pm, Saturday to Wednesday. The garden, tea room and shop remain open after the house has closed from 5th November to 23rd December 2008, 11am to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday. Open Good Friday 11am to 5pm.

Access: there is a step to the entrance of the house, and many steps inside, so access is difficult. There is a virtual tour available. There are steps to the entrance of the shop and the restaurant. Adapted toilet facilities are available at reception. Two wheelchairs are available to hire, but advanced booking essential.
