Ashdown Forest Pooh Bear Places Map

This walk around Ashdown Forest Pooh Bear places is approximately three miles in length. Start at the Gill's Lap Car Park, cross the grassy area north of the car park, passing the information board, and then follow the path. You will come to a clump of trees on your right up a slight incline. This is the Enchanted Place where Christopher Robin had to say goodbye to Pooh Bear. The picture here shows the path as it approaches Gill's Lap.
"Sitting there they could see the whole world spread out until it reached the sky, and whatever there was all the world over was with them in Galleon's lap." (From An Enchanted Place)

A.A. Milne and E.H Shepard Memorial
Leaving the clump, follow the path which leads directly down hill to the Lone Pine, beneath which is the Heffalump Trap. Then walk around the top of the hill until you reach an area enclosed by a wooden fence. Here there is a memorial tablet to A.A. Milne and illustrator E.H. Shepard. There are great views from here.
Walk out of the memorial and join what is known as the fire ride. The ride is visible in this photo down the slope in front of the memorial.

Roo's Sand Pit
The path will soon take you round to the sandy pit where Roo played. This is a much larger feature than you might expect. There will be a pool of water in the bottom of the pit, unless the weather has been particularly dry.
Cross the B2026 - caution traffic can be fast along here - follow the small path and then turn left, following the path down the hill to the stream. Roo fell in this stream. Now walk up the hill and you are in the area of the North Pole. Just like the real North Pole it is difficult to tell when you're actually there. Turning right into the valley will take you into "Eeyore's Gloomy Place". High up on the ridge to your right you will see Gill's Lap.

Retrace your steps to the path, and continue up out of the valley, and then walk around the top of the valley. From here you can see most of Pooh Bear's world spread out before you. The Enchanted Place is on the ridge, Eeyore's Sad and Gloomy Place is in the valley, and the North Pole is off to the left.
Continue walking around the top of the valley, which takes you back to Gill's Lap Car Park.
