Historic Accommodation In Wales

We use the resources of the UK's leading on-line hotel reservations service to bring you guest reviews, secure bookings and competitive rates for hotels throughout Wales.

As InfoBritain is a site for historical tourism we have created a special list of hotels with particular historic interest. Each hotel has been selected for its quality, and for the historic nature of its buildings, or for events that took place in or near the hotels. In Wales you could stay at Caer Beris, the former home of Lord Swansea, or in luxurious converted hill farm cottages in the Brecon Beacons - Blant-nant-Grose Farm Cottages.

The rule of Wales by rich local families came to an end between 1880 and 1918. In the First World War the Nanteos, Penrhyns and Bates families lost heirs. The families were also devastated by war taxes. Power was being transferred to the county councils. The great houses were often demolished, although a few survive. The former house of Lord Swansea, of the influential Vivian family, is now the Caer Beris hotel. Conversion work of the old manor has taken eighteen years, and the hotel is now one of the most respected in mid-Wales.

The hotel is set in twenty seven acres of parkland.
