The Spa town of Tunbridge Wells represents one of the earliest of all holiday destinations in Britain. From the sixteenth century people were visiting spa towns to take the water, which was believed to have medicinal properties. These trips in search of health soon developed into holidays, taken by the healthy as well as the sick.
