The original house on the site of Ettington Park Hotel was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It is the home of the Shirley family who may have been here since before the Norman Conquest. No place in England has been associated with one family for longer than Ettington Park.

The Domesday Book records a mill and a church on the site. The mill has gone but remains of the Norman church can be seen from the windows of Ettington Park. Many friezes decorating the present house illustrate the long history of the house and the Shirley family.

The hotel is set in extensive parkland, and this is also historic. Once the aristocracy stopped showing off their wealth by building churches, they started making parkland gardens, and would often move whole villages if they interfered with a planned vista. This happened in 1795 when Evelyn Shirley moved the village of Upper Ettington to enclose the parkland surrounding the house. The remains of the original village can still be seen in the grounds. See our History of Gardens for more details.

Ettington Park is a four star hotel offering food and accommodation to a high standard.
