The village of Lenham itself is an ancient and beautiful Kent market village. The market is mentioned in the Domesday survey of 1086. The age of the village is remarkably apparent as you walk down the main street. Centuries of use have worn through the soft chalky soil, and left a sunken road that runs well below the level of the pavement.
