Historic Accommodation In Lairg: Aultnagar Lodge

Aultnagar Hotel Aultnager Lodge was built by Andrew Carnegie in 1904. The hotel has it's own 22 acres of ground, with deer roaming freely.

Andrew Carnegie's father was a jobbing handloom weaver. He was one of the many small businessmen put out of business by the big mills that came about with the Industrial Revolution. Carnegie decided to emigrate rather than work in one of the big mills. The family moved to Pennsylvania, where his son Andrew educated himself, went into business and became one of the world's wealthiest men. As the founder of US Steel he became a leading figure in the Industrial Revolution that had originally put his father out of business. Andrew Carnegie was a great philanthropist, and towards the end of his life spent much of his wealth setting up libraries, schools and universities in Scotland.

Aultnager Lodge Hotel is located near the beautiful Loch Shin, and overlooks the Kyle of Sutherland.
