Historic Accommodation In Wales: Caer Beris Hotel, Powys
The rule of Wales by rich local families came to an end between 1880 and 1918. In the First World War the Nanteos, Penrhyns and Bates families lost heirs. The families were also devastated by war taxes. Power was being transferred to the county councils. The great houses were often demolished, although a few survive. The former house of Lord Swansea, of the influential Vivian family, is now the Caer Beris hotel. Conversion work of the old manor has taken eighteen years, and the hotel is now one of the most respected in mid-Wales.
The hotel is set in twenty seven acres of parkland.
